Internet-Use Policy

The Internet

Several million computers worldwide are connected via the digital superhighway called the Internet. Every person using these connected computers can communicate and share information. Over the past 25 years, the Internet has become a common repository for text based data, audio, still images and video. The World Wide Web, a common vehicle for accessing all information on the Internet, has made use of the Internet easier and more desirable. As a consequence, the “Web” has enabled the Internet as a new medium for publishing. The Internet is a public space and is not centrally managed by any one entity.  It must be given the same respect, and treated with the same prudent caution, as any public space.  The Internet is a broad and rich resource. It has information and entertainment from people of all ages and backgrounds, but no governing body. Some of this content may not be accurate or appropriate for children to view or use.

Internet Access

Holly Creek School provides Internet access as an educational service. It is the school's belief that Internet access, when properly used, can significantly enrich the learning experience. However, each user of the Internet must recognize his or her responsibility in having access to such a vast array of resources. Further, each user must recognize Internet access as a privilege. Because Internet access is a privilege, the Holly Creek School reserves the right to revoke any network access, including Internet privileges, at any time.

Disclaimer

Parents, students, faculty and staff should be aware that the Holly Creek

School has no control over the content of information residing on other computers

connected via the Internet. Parents, students, faculty and staff are therefore advised that connected computers may contain material that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, profane, inaccurate, abusive or threatening, racially offensive, or otherwise objectionable.  Administrators, faculty and staff of the Holly Creek School do not condone or permit the use or viewing of such material, and persons are prohibited from bringing such material into the school environment. For these reasons, Holly Creek School has installed a filtering system on its network to restrict sites that can be accessed.  Parents and students having home Internet access should be aware of the existence of such materials and should monitor home use accordingly. Holly Creek School believes that being able to use the good things on the Internet and learning to take personal responsibility for technology behavior is an important and enriching educational experience. Therefore, in order to use the Internet at Holly Creek School, each student and parent must understand and accept the following rules:
